Summary: A hike to a beautiful mesa with red rock views all around
Challenge Level: Moderate

Trailhead Directions: From the "Y" (the intersection of State Route 179 and State Route 89A), go north to Jordan Road. Turn left on Jordan Road and drive to the end. Turn left and proceed to the cul de sac and continue straight on the dirt road. You'll come to the parking lot after another 1/2 mile. The parking is located at GPS coordinates: 34° 54.508' N; 111° 46.373' W.
Description: In November 2006, we hiked the Brins Mesa Trail out of the Jordan Road trailhead to take a look at the damage done by the Brins Fire in the Summer of 2006. In some areas, the fire damage seems to be quite severe. In other areas, the landscape isn't affected at all. Here are the photos we took.
Here's a short movie showing the fire damage
In January 2009, we hiked Brins Mesa again. The land is recovering from the fire very nicely. When we reached the mesa after climbing up 500 feet, we followed the right trail about 0.8 miles and climbed up on a large rock formation for a scenic view. There we had 360° views. It was magnificent! Total elevation gain from the parking lot to the scenic overlook is about 950 feet.

For those of you have a GPS unit, I have the GPS data available for the hike.
